Hilltop Cottage, Underberg -Pet Friendly

This year has been a whirlwind to say the least, and more craziness is yet to follow. I haven’t posted in a while, partly as my hairdressing career has taken off rapidly and partly because I haven’t particularly been inspired by cooking or baking recently. This year has been all about convenience…

Desperately needing a holiday, we decided to look for somewhere to spend our anniversary weekend. My dogs are a huge part of my life, so finding something pet friendly was non- negotiable, after all they personally feel the loneliness when their parents are constantly running around like headless chickens.

The berg has always been special to us, our honeymoon 5 years ago was spent, hiking, enjoying snow capped mountains and eating phenomenal food at Cleopatra Mountain farmhouse.

Getting back to this weekend away, we stumbled on a place called Hilltop Cottage. The isolation and views were the selling point for us!! The fact that it was pet friendly, sealed the deal.

A cozy, fully equipped 2 bedroom (both en-suite) self-catering cottage located on a farm just outside Underberg. The cottage is very private, has a fenced in garden of about an acre and is part of a 90ha farm. Lots of walks, a dam and a few farm animals are all part of what this place has to offer.

Our first day consisted of a beautiful walk around the farm, followed by an evening of rain which meant we stayed indoors with the fire going, wine flowing and some card games and the start of our puzzle building obsession. This puzzle was not completed by the end of the weekend might I add…

The first morning (our 5th Anniversary) we were blessed with snow!!! Snow everywhere… Look at these views, how can it get any better.

Update: Having started this post nearly 2 years ago, it’s crazy to think how much has changed in our lives, now living in Wellington, New Zealand. I have decided to post this regardless of the delay, it’s a little hideaway we look forward to returning to when we visit South Africa again. I have provided all the details below, hoping this place brings you many special memories as it has brought us.

Although this post has been posted years after the fact and not exactly how I wanted to end it off but, I do hope the images inspire some travel and future adventures.
