The Chefs Table

The Chefs Table has been the restaurant most of us Durban foodies have been waiting for all year. It’s an exciting new concept where the chefs cook in an open kitchen for all guests to see and admire. How amazing for the chefs to see hungry guests enjoying their creations?

I was one of the lucky few who were invited to an afternoon tasting, to sample some of the meals on their menu. The menu is based around fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. The produce is organic and the menu changes around availability of products on the day. Supporting our own, small local farmers is one of the reasons I love this new establishment so much.

There are not enough words I can put down in this post that would describe how delicious their food is. Each ingredient on the plate had a purpose, looked spectacular and tasted phenomenal. They were served on hand crafted cermic dishes, showcasing more of our South African talent. Kayla-Ann Osborn and her team are extremely talented and work together like a well oiled machine. I can honestly say that for a new restaurant, they have it all figured out.

The service was 5 star, the staff that waited the tables were always there to top up an empty glass, clear the table swiftly, provide information on the wine accompanying the course and most of all friendly and helpful.

If there is one restaurant I would spend hours bragging about, it would be this one. I highly recommend you book your next meal there!!! If you are still not convinced I would suggest you look at some of the food I tasted below. (Please note: these are not full portion sizes but tasting sizes).

The starters on the menu are between R75-R89, and the mains R165-R195. I was expecting higher prices to be totally honest, but at these prices I know people would eat here more regularly opposed to on special occasions only.

  1. What an amazing concept! I think more and more people these days are taking an interest in not only what they’re eating, but how their food is prepared. My biggest struggle with some of these higher end restaurants, is that their vegetarian offerings are often quite limited. Great read and superb picture!

    1. Hi Melanie, my friend Cait is also a vegetarian and struggles with the same thing. I would highly recommend you chat to them at The Chef’s table as I am sure they would be able to accommodate you, even if it’s something that’s not offered on the menu. This restaurant is very approachable and they are not like most high end restaurants.
