Durban in recent years has become a hub for trendy places to eat as the city continues to expand. Hillcrest being a thirty minute drive from Durban means that I generally get to try these places out over the weekends only.
Hip, hip, hooray for Union Square that’s now opened in Hillcrest. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for a good burger, meaning that I had to get over there asap.
Upon arriving at Union Square the decor instantly made a statement and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of it. Our waiter was very friendly, patient and gave us a few beer tasters before finally settling with a Devil’s Peak Ale. The craft beers are slightly on the pricey side but hopefully a special or two will be introduced over time.
Orders are filled out by patrons on a menu, cutting out any possible human errors. I was very impressed with the prices of the food and found them very competitive.
My friends ordered halloumi and calamari nibbles which was a very suitable potion size. This is a BIG deal for me as I don’t like to leave restaurants feeling short changed.
My hubby and I both had burgers and “flip” were they delicious. I cannot fault the food at all as it was tasty, fresh, hot, good portion size and price was on point.
Overall I cannot wait until my next visit to try out some other burger flavour combinations.
